Campus Dining takes steps to ensure environmental and fiscal sustainability in our operations.

Water & Energy conservation measures include:

-Trayless Dining 

In a 2008 study by Aramark, by going trayless, food waste was reduced by 25% to 30% per person or about one-quarter to one-half pound of food per person per day. Dining trayless not only minimizes food waste but also conserves energy and water and reduces the amount of cleaning chemicals entering the waste stream. It is estimated that going trayless saves UNCW nearly 9,000 gallons of water a day.

-Use of Energy Star rated appliances when possible

-Wilmington's first Certified Green Restaurant® at Dubs Café

This location became certified as a 3 Star Certified Green Restaurant® by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA) in 2018. GRA is a national nonprofit organization helping restaurants to become more environmentally sustainable.


Dub's Cafe received 191.89 GreenPoints™ on the GRA’s rigorous certification scale and implemented 56 environmental steps.
