Efficient Operations

Campus Dining takes steps to ensure environmental and fiscal sustainability in our operations.

Water & Energy conservation measures include:

-Reusable Cups and Plates

UNCW Campus Dining utilizes reusable cups, plates, and cutlery in our dining locations, when possible, to reduce our ecological footprint. In situations where single use food ware is necessary, we try hard to procure compostable products, which, if disposed of properly, contributes to our composting program.

-Use of Energy Star rated appliances when possible

Energy Star rated appliances are installed throughout UNCW's dining facilities. Energy Star appliances must achieve high levels of energy efficiency, which are set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to receive an Energy Star label. Also, these appliances must not sacrifice performance for energy savings.

-Use of Kitchen Sink Aerators where possible

Sink aerators are installed throughout UNCW's dining facilities to save water where possible. An aerator installed on faucets introduces little air bubbles to the water flow. This allows the flow of water to slow and in doing so, saves water. Installing an aerator on a faucet conserves water, by up to 70% compared to a faucet with no aerator installed.

-Wilmington's first Certified Green Restaurant® at Dubs Café

This location became certified as a 3 Star Certified Green Restaurant® by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA) in 2018. GRA is a national nonprofit organization helping restaurants to become more environmentally sustainable. UNCW's new dining hall, The Shore, will soon be a Certified Green Restaurant as well!

Dub's Cafe received 191.89 GreenPoints™ on the GRA’s rigorous certification scale and implemented 56 environmental steps.
